Culture QotD: The Lines, the Hassle, the ???
What part of travelling do you most dread?
Traveling makes me very happy. In my family, we are road-trippers--we drive to our vacation. We load up the Passat with luggage, DVDs, and set out in the wee hours of the morning, usually 5:00 am. We stop periodically at travel plazas like Love's to fill up on coffee and goodies. 2007 featured road trips to Florida (via Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia) and Michigan (via Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana).
Lines, crowds, and spending money do not bother me so much. I expect that when dealing with large tourist attractions like Disney World and Sea World. We have learned to go to these places early in the morning because the average Joes usually do not begin to filter in until around noon. The morning crowds at tourist traps are usually mellow and sparse.
The part of traveling I dread is the worry about is my car breaking down in a town like Paw Paw, Illinois, where there are apparently no services available for the traveler. The headache of trying to fix a Volkswagen in a town with no services and a VW dealer almost an hour away is indeed dreadful (it is also hard even to fix a Volkswagen in a town with services and a VW dealer fifteen minutes away).
